My name is Natalia and..

I am the Midwife Professional behind the scenes of The Baby Links.

I am so happy you had the chance to bump into my page and read my story. You might need to grab a cup of coffee, because it might be a long one. But I would like you to understand where I am coming from and connect with you on a deeper level.

I was born in Tashkent, in Uzbekistan and at the age of six , when my mum met my Greek dad, we moved to Greece. I firmly believe that dad is the person who loves and raises you, not necessarily the one that is your biological father . Thus, although my biological father was probably Russian, I still answer that I am half Greek and half Russian (1/4 Ukrainian) when people query my accent. At school I met one of my lifetime friends, she just moved to Greece from Poland with her parents and she did not speak Greek either. We started our friendship by using sign language as our common thing was that we both did not speak Greek in a Greek school. The teacher thought I was stupid because I did not speak any Greek.

Sometimes we are prone to make assumptions from what we see in front of us,

not looking at a deeper level or too busy to question.

My decision to become a midwife has been influenced by a variety of factors. My best friend wanted to become a Doctor. Her aunt was a midwife. My aunt and cousin were obstetricians at that time. Me on the other hand , was feeling sick only with the idea of seeing raw meet at the butcher market. So applying to become a midwife as my dad wanted, was a mission impossible.

And yet, I got both the English Teacher Qualification and entered into Midwifery in 1998.

Four years after long hours at the hospital setting and numerous exams I completed my Degree in Midwifery Science. I remember I almost passed out watching my first delivery, but inspired by one tutor and the way she talked about midwifery in England, the natural way of delivering babies and the minimal Doctor intervention.

Got my first job within a month of qualifying at a private hospital in Greece. Met my other twin midwife friend there. A connection that has lasted a lifetime . I believe that we meet people in our lives for a reason and everybody has a story that has inspired them, pushed them to become more or motivated them to be where they are now.

I got into the Public Sector thanks to my dad's efforts and worked for two years in NICU before coming for some more education, experience and adventures in the UK.

I had four goals: to get work experience, a MSc Degree, to buy a house if I get sick from arthritis as my mum had suffered from juvenile arthritis since she was 27 and to travel.

With God's Grace I managed to achieve all the above along with two beautiful children

and the help of my ex-husband.

I had a career break for few years to be around my kids and now I am looking forward to creating a community around maternity and add value and acknowledgement to all the health professionals t

hat have worked hard to make a difference in patient care.
