Natalia: Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Moved to Greece when she was six. Studied midwifery and worked for almost two years in the private sector before she was appointed to the public sector in NICU in Elena Venizelou. Decided to come to England to acquire more midwifery experience, study for a MSc degree in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and travel. Worked in most London hospitals as a permanent staff member and as an agency before moving to Worcestershire to raise her kids in a slower pace of life.

Afia : Has been a midwife for 27 years! She was a nurse previously for a year before her midwifery training. She initially worked at Croydon hospital when I qualified as a midwife before moving to Kings College Hospital in Camberwell London to gain more experience in high risk care. She also provided continuity of care for teenagers.

She did a diploma in tropical nursing and went to work for medicins sans frontiers in Galkayo, Somalia.

She worked alongside TBAs (traditional birth attendants) in providing and teaching safe care in a war zone. It gave her the challenge she craved. She also spent some time in Kenya which is a beautiful country. Her family are from Ghana west Africa so it was nice to see east Africa which differs greatly from west Africa.

In her return to UK she worked at St Georges Hospital in London where she was a lead midwife and delivery suite coordinator. She loved it but after she had her children she needed more flexibility so she did agency work for about 4 years. She has worked in most of the London Hospitals and met so many people along the way.

She is now back working as a delivery suite coordinator in Surrey. It’s good to be back.
